Sophie Miya-Smith is a NZ-Japanese photographer whose work explores the dynamic connection between people and place.
She earned a bachelor’s degree in Communication Design from Auckland University of Technology, and was awarded a scholarship at the Academy of Art University in San Francisco, with BFA in Photography. Her career has since taken her across New Zealand, Australia, and the United States.
Shaped by an upbringing between contrasting cultures, her work balances spontaneity and structure while exploring the interplay between youthful ideologies and a contemporary aesthetic.
